Shang Hai the love

…I am really sorry for having kept this
secret for over the past 5 years but never confided with you. You must
believe me, my love for you is genuine…

Thuong Hai (Shang Hai) 1935,

It was a beautiful autumn evening when the withered yellowish leaves
started falling tenderly and dedicatedly on the reddish background of
sunset – the blazing beams of sunlight glowing at the very far on the
horizon, as hot and enlivening as my desire for life.

I was sitting at the usual Rick café where I found an utmost pleasure
and tranquility after a long and tiring day at the construction site,
quietly felt my ill respiration breathing in and out slowly and with
some difficulties, indicating my deteriorating health. I often sat on
the table number 12 as from nowhere could I find any better view towards
the serene port which was left unattended for many years. The serenity
stroke me an indescribable pain of a golden age lost – which is akin to
my health…

The conspicuous presence of a nice-looking girl on the opposite table
involved my attention. Her hair was long and smooth, gracefully waving
in the slender breeze. Enchanted by the beautiful girl, I quick-wittedly
thought of a manoeuvre to catch her attention in order to acquaint her.
I asked the waiter to give me a little salt. Though a bit astonished,
he did as I requested.

A little salt was served, I slowly put a tiny amount of it into my cup
of coffee. Sitting opposite me, her confusing nuances indicated me to
commence my lines,

“Wow, very concentrated, very strong”, did I continue, “the favour of my hometown.”

She daintily asked me,

“Why did you add some salt into your coffee?”

I led my gentlemanliness and approached her, ordered another cup of
coffee and put into a little bit salt. As she was trying the new cup, I
told her,

“My hometown is Nam A (Nan A) island. When I was still living there, I
usually took a cup of coffee every other day. The inshore wind brought
the salty vapours into the land, dissolving into my coffee, creating
this unique favour. Years have passed, I still remain this habit of
adding a little salt into my coffee, even though I am now in Shang Hai…”

Appreciating my poignant regards for my hometown, she talked to me with
sympathy and great affection of a warm heart. We started to meet each
other more frequently, and then after two years, we got married.

Shang Hai 1940,

Dear Nha Van (Ya Wen),

By the time you read this letter, I might not be here anymore but
resting in another world. I did lie to you over the past 5 years, the
deception that I never dared to confess because I was afraid that I
would lose you forever.

The truth is that I never enjoyed drinking coffee with salt but just to
get your attention at Rick café on that day. I am really sorry for
having kept this secret for over the past 5 years but never confided
with you. You must believe me, my love for you is genuine. You have
enlivened my life, you have relented my pain and grievances over my
cancerous lung.

Forgive me. I should have not …

Chan Vinh (zhen rong)

Narrated by Phuc Long

Qua câu chuyện , ắt hẳn bạn thấy được nét độc đáo trong việc gây ấn tượng với người khác nhỉ
